INTERESTED IN ENGLISH OR/AND MUSIC?

As part of a more cultural insight into NZ live and customs, I decided to watch a rugby match on Saturday evening. Conny and I went to Carisbrook stadium -a.k.a the House of Pain- plenty of time in advance so we could buy our tickets and get a seat in a covered stand as it was raining (as usual). Before the match, some student games and chants (Go Highlanders! -the Otago team which I was expected to support) conducted by a tough guy with a sword in the Braveheart fashion. The match was kind of boring until almost the end when Otago -MY team- scored two goals by penalty. Great end! and to celebrate the victory nothing better than a live concert by NZ super famous band Shihad. Although we didn't have tickets for the concert, we could sneak in through the toilet area. Lots of intoxicated students plus a wide range of other people, from the man who opened my account in the kiwibank -who was selling beer- to a teacher from my school, as well as the guy who insured our car. Great concert! Here's a song so you can know what I'm talking about:

Shihad is a NZ band originally formed in 1988, so they've been around for 21 years and still attract young and old crowds alike. Their lyrics definitely deserve a look at. You can learn more about them and why they decided to change their name at some point by checking out this Wikipedia link and by watching this 5' documentary.

In a very different tone, another discovery about NZ music is the band Flight of the Conchords. Strongly recommended as an amusing way to improve your English. These two guys also run a comedy show on TV, and they seem to be quite famous in the US. This is a funny song, called Business Time:
